Clara Susanna Cosgrove
was born in Columbus and moved to San Antonio as a child. She
was a student of Jose Arpa, Xavier Gonzalez, and Peter Hohnstedt.
She was a member of the Southern States Art League, San Antonio
Art League, and Coppini Academy of FA. She began exhibiting in
the 1920’s and was active over four decades. Her works were
dominated by the flora of South Texas with cactus, larkspurs,
bluebonnets often prominent. She painted the rivers, the vistas,
and the buildings near San Antonio with the delicate touch and
in her own unique impressionist style.
