Fort Worth native Sallie
Meredith Gillespie (1898-1991) was a graduate of Sophie Newcomb with
a degree in design. After study at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine
Arts she returned to Fort Worth where she
taught in the public schools, at Our Lady
of Victory College (1939-42),
and was later head of the art department of Texas Wesleyan College
in Fort Worth, (1942-1945). She
was one of the founders of the Fort Worth School of FA and served as
secretary of the FWAA in 1947. She moved to Taos, New Mexico
to paint in the 1950’s.
