Ola
McNeill Davidson was born in Brazoria County. She was raised in the Panhandle
on her Father’s S.R. Ranch of 150,000 acres near Spur. Often
accompanying her father and camping under Buffalo hide tents. There
she first painted on shingles with paints from Montgomery Ward. She
was a student of Emma Richardson Cherry. She
became known as “The Mystic Painter” for her colorful stylized
interpretations of nature. Her experiential paintings were to become
an influence on the Houston art community including Robert Preusser.
She is referred to as a Texas legend by art critic, Campbell Geeslin.
