Mary Eleanor Witherspoon was born in Gainesville. She
studied with Christian MacLean in Fort Worth, Lydia Longacre in Old
Lyme, with Mabel Welsh and with John Sloan at the Art Students
League. She was a long time resident of Fort Worth
and exhibitor in national and regional exhibitions including the
famous Texas Centennial Exhibition in 1936. She excelled in small
compositions often combining whimsy and fantasy in her creations.
