Mary Darter Coleman was born in Fort
Worth. After study with Dura Cockrell in Fort Worth she studied at
the Art Students League and with George Bridgman, Dimitri Romanowsky,
Luis Mora, Frank Chase, Armin Hansin, Edgar Payne, Jack Wilinson
Smith, Edwin Shrader and John Carlson. She married Harvey B. Coleman
in 1925 and moved with him to Los Angeles. She and her artist
husband were in high demand by members of the film community while
continuing to exhibit regularly in prestigious Texas and California
art exhibitions.
