Martha
Barton was born in Kilgore. She graduated from Southern
Methodist University studying art under Olive Donaldson. Barton
then attended The Boston Conservatory of Art. She
then moved to San Antonio to study at the Witte Museum Art
School with Charles Rosen. She exhibited in the
1940s in regional exhibitions including the prestigious Texas
General Exhibition. A talented painter she excelled as a
portrait artist. She returned from San Antonio to Kilgore where
she remained the rest of her life.
