Margaret Spencer was the niece of painters Thomas Alexander Harrison
and Birge Harrison and was married to painter, Robert Spencer. She
studied at Bryn Mawr College, M.I.T., the New York School of Design,
the Art Students League, and in Paris. Spencer was one of the first
female practicing architects in the United States. She was also a
successful painter, exhibiting at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine
Art, the Corcoran Gallery, the Paris Salons, the Art Institute of
Chicago, and others.
