John
Guerin was born in Houghton,
Michigan. He served in the Air Force from 1942-1945. He
studied at the American Academy of Art in Chicago, the Art Students
League
in New York,
ColoradoSprings
Fine Art Center, and Escuela Bellas
Artes in San Miguel,
Mexico. A painter and educator, he taught fine art at the Dallas
Museum of Fine Arts from 1950 to 1952, and at the University of
Texas
from 1953 to 1980. He retired from the University of Texas
as a Professor Emeritus. His work was selected for the Smithsonian
Institute Archive of American Artists. He was chosen as an
Academician of the National Academy of Design in New York.
His work has been included in many important invitational exhibits
including the Whitney Annual, New York, Corcoran Biennial,
Washington, D.C., and the Butler Institute of American Art,
Youngstown, Ohio. Works by this important Texas painter are to be
found in the Chrysler Museum in Provincetown, Mass., Dallas Museum
of Art and the Museum of Fine Arts, Houston and many other public and
private collections.
