Joecelia Tipton (1895-1966)

Joe Celia Tipton was born in Mixon East. She was raised in Troup, Texas. After marriage she moved to Dallas with her husband in 1921. She began to study art with Frank Reaugh and traveled with Reaugh on many of his Western sketching and teaching trips to the West and was one of his favorite pupils. They often sketched in the Tule and Blanco Canyons of West Texas. She became a highly successful business woman and was one of the co-founders of the Reaugh Art Club in Dallas. Reaugh made her a trustee to his estate. She produced numerous pastels and oil paintings. Her specialty was as a pastel landscape artist.
