Henriette Wyeth
was the oldest daughter of N. C. Wyeth. She studied art with her
father and later at the Pennsylvania Academy of Fine Arts. She
returned to Chadds Ford for more study with her father. A young
artist from New Mexico was studying with her father at the time,
Peter Hurd. They fell in love and were married in 1929 and moved to
Sentinel Ranch in San Patricio, New Mexico. Her talents were such
that she was soon in demand for her portrait paintings. Her
commissions grew to encompass an international clientele. She was
able to render in her realistic compositions a unique likeness that
captured the essence of the sitter with an innate sensitivity which
had been fostered and encouraged by her famous artist father. Her
accomplishments were many and her legacy remains a testimony to her
skill, determination and to her matchless artistic enthusiasm.
