Gertrude Lisette Levy Barnstone was born in Houston. She began
studying at the Museum School of Art, Houston at age seven. At age
eleven her works were exhibited in the annual Houston Local
exhibition. She graduated from Rice Institute where she active in
theater and the visual arts. She was a true renaissance woman, her
life has been devoted to the arts, civic projects, and has been a
devoted political activist pursuing the advancement of social
programs in Houston. She married architect, author, and teacher
Howard Barnstone after WW II who was well known as the creator of
numerous eclectic residences he built in Houston and around the
nation. She was talented painter and sculptor and exhibited locally
and nationally over a seven decade period.
