Franz Seraphim “Frank” Strahalm was born in Vienna. After
professional art training in Europe, he immigrated to Mexico in 1909
where he lived for two years leaving only because of the turmoil of
the Mexican Revolution. He arrived in the Texas in 1911 and first
lived in San Antonio. He moved to Houston in 1915 and finally to
Dallas. He founded the Dallas School of Fine Painting, 1919. He was
considered one of the most important Dallas painters by 1925 and was
a part of an eight person downtown exhibit for the leading Dallas
painters of the era. In 1926
and 1927 he traveled to New Mexico and the Pecos and Colorado River
valleys painting Indian villages and landscapes. Member: Southern
