Frank Earl Klepper was
born in Plano. He first studied with Vivian Aunspaugh in Dallas
and then at the Art Institute of Chicago in 1914. He served in
WW I in France with the Texas Division (36th). While
working in a camouflage unit he painted the war torn images of
a devastated France. After the war he remained in France to
study before returning to Texas and McKinney where he was
raised. He continued his exhibition career which had begun in
Fort Worth in 1912 and was a consistent prize winner in
exhibitions while garnering a reputation as one of Texas’ finest
art instructors. Many of his students were to become prominent
in Texas art. He was a prolific painter and etcher. He
taught at Dallas High School and was director of the
Southwestern School of FA, and director of Art at Kidd-Key
College, Sherman.
