French artist Édouard Henri Léon (1873 – 1968) studied at the École
des Beaux-Arts. He was awarded France's highest decoration,
the Chevalier de la Legion d'Honneur.
A master etcher and teacher he opened Atelier Edouard
Leon in Paris. He became the mentor and instructor of San Antonio
artist Mary Bonner in 1922. In 1927 Leon and Bonner held a joint
exhibition at the Witte Memorial Museum in San Antonio. The
works that Leon exhibited were in the collections of the Louve and
over fifty over French, British, and American museums. He was as a juror for the second
Texas Wildflower Exhibition, held at the Witte Museum in San Antonio
and sponsored by Edgar B. Davis in 1927.
