Dot Hector was
born in Lexington, Mississippi on August 16, 1904. She
studied art at the Cincinnati Art Academy and later at the
University of Mississippi and Delta State University. She
painted throughout her long career but became most active in the
late 1950’s. She was in great demand for commissions to the end
of her life. Her early works were often images of vanishing
scenes of her much-loved Delta. Her early work, the evocative
portrayal of cabins of the Mississippi Delta, are treasured by
those fortunate enough to own one her paintings. This is one of
those early paintings and a fine image for those interested both
this talented artist and the art of Mississippi.
