Dorothy
Geyer was born in raised in Baltimore. She studied at the
Maryland Institute of Art, Washington School of Art, Texas Western
College, with Frederick Tables, with Jan Herring and at
the Art Students League in New York. She moved to El Paso in 1945
and quickly established herself as one of the cities leading
artists. She joined and became an award winning exhibitor with the
Texas Fine Arts Assoc., and was a founding member of the El Paso Art
Association. She was involved in all areas of El Paso and Texas art
promotion during her fifty-two years in El Paso. She had over 32
solo exhibitions during her long exhibition career with numerous
prizes in juried competitions across Texas and the Nation. She
taught art in El Paso Pubic Schools and the El Paso Museum of Art
while becoming one of its most popular artists. She was known for
her exuberant florals.
