Bertha Richardson Bennett was born
in Coryell County. She moved to San Antonio in 1929. She studied at
the Witte Museum School of Art, with Henry L. McFee, Dorothy
Bergamo, Clara Duer, Etienne Ret, Charles Rosen and at the San
Antonio Art Institute. She was a member of the San Antonio Palette
and Chisel Club, San Antonio Art League, San Antonio Printmakers,
Texas Fine Arts Association, San Antonio River Art Group, Coppini
Academy of Fine Art, and the Texas Watercolor Society. She began
exhibiting at the Witte Museum in 1933 in the San Antonio Local. Her
exhibition career extended into the 1950s with works shown in the
Texas General exhibitions and numerous other regional shows. Her
solo exhibitions included exhibitions in Jacksonville, Mississippi,
at Laguna Gloria Art Museum in Austin, at the Texas Federation
Women’s Clubs Headquarters in Austin, at the Mill Race Studio in San
Antonio, and at the Gutzon Borglum Studio in San Antonio
