Beatien Yazz (b. 1928)

Beatien Yazz, (Bea Etin Yazz) Little No Shirt aka Jimmy Toddy was born near Wide Ruins, Arizona on the Navajo Reservation. Drawn to art as a child, he was drawing with crayons at age eight. Sallie and Bill Lipincott, operators of the Wide Ruins Trading Post, encouraged him and provided art materials for his creations. He was a Navajo Code Talker while a Marine Corps in WW II. Following the war, he returned to the reservation to concentrate on art while supporting himself as a Navajo policeman, art teacher and finally as a successful full time artist.
