Adele Laure Brunet was born in Austin.
She began studying art at the age of ten with Janet Downie.
Brunet graduated from the University of Texas in 1914. She and her
sister sailed from Galveston in July of that year bound for France.
While at sea, Germany declared war and she was routed to New York
where she remained for the next thirteen years. She earned a living
as a costume designer and commercial artist. She continued
study at the Art Students League in New York and the Art Institute
of Chicago. Her instructors included George Brandt Bridgman, Frank
Vincent DuMond, Mohonri Mackintosh Young, and Henry Rittenberg.
After the death of her sister, she
returned to Texas in 1928 and settled in Dallas. She was an
instructor at the Texas Artists Camp in Cristoval. She also taught
in Lubbock, Brownwood, Abeline, and at the Palo Duro School of Art
in Canyon. Brunet died in Dallas in 1965.
